Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

The film begins where the previous part ended: Voldemort steals the Elder Wand from the grave of Albus Dumbledore and then heads to Hogwarts, which has now turned into something resembling a concentration camp, surrounded by dementors. The school's headmaster, Severus Snape, watches the students march by with an expressionless face.

At the "Shell" cottage, Harry Potter asks Griphook about Godric Gryffindor's sword, supposedly located in Bellatrix Lestrange's vault in Gringotts. The goblin says that there's actually a fake sword there (which Bellatrix doesn't know). Harry suspects that one of the Horcruxes is also in the Lestrange vault. To retrieve it, Harry, Ron, and Hermione strike a deal with Griphook: the goblin agrees to guide them into Bellatrix's vault in exchange for Gryffindor's sword. This condition is unacceptable to the friends, as it leaves them without a means to destroy the remaining Horcruxes, but they hope to find a solution later.

Next, Harry speaks with Garrick Ollivander, who inspects and identifies the captured wands of Bellatrix Lestrange and Draco Malfoy. Regarding Draco's wand, Ollivander says that since Harry won it in a fair duel, he is now its rightful owner. When asked about the Deathly Hallows, Ollivander states that he doesn't believe in their existence. After Harry mentions that Voldemort obtained the Elder Wand, Ollivander warns Harry that, in that case, he has no chance of defeating the Dark Lord.

The trio, along with Griphook, heads to Gringotts. Harry and Griphook are under the invisibility cloak, Hermione, under the effects of a Polyjuice Potion, transforms into Bellatrix, and Ron is disguised as a foreign wizard. They manage to break into the vault and find the turned Horcrux cup of Penelope Puffenduy, but due to the effects of the Multiplying Charm, everything they touch starts to multiply. Griphook, having grabbed the sword, declares that he only promised to help them break into the bank, but not to get out. An alarm goes off in Gringotts, and Hermione decides to use the Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon guarding the vaults. By riding the dragon, the trio manages to escape from the bank. Later, while flying over a lake, they jump into the water, and Harry has a vision of Voldemort killing Griphook and other Gringotts employees. At the same time, Harry learns that another Horcrux is located at Hogwarts.

The trio apparates to Hogsmeade, but immediately an alarm is raised. Death Eaters rush to find them, but they are saved by the innkeeper, who turns out to be the brother of the late Hogwarts headmaster. Aberforth Dumbledore gives Harry, Ron, and Hermione food and advises them to abandon their mission and think of themselves. Harry firmly declares that he intends to continue the fight to the end. Eventually, Aberforth relents and calls Neville Longbottom, who, along with them, leads the trio through a secret passage into Hogwarts. They are enthusiastically greeted by students hiding from supporters of the new regime in the Room of Requirement. Harry tries to figure out what the remaining Horcrux is and where it is located. Meanwhile, Luna Lovegood suggests that it might be the diadem of Candida Cogtevran.

Meanwhile, Snape gathers the students in the Great Hall, demanding information about Harry's whereabouts and threatening punishment for disobedience. Suddenly, Harry steps out of the crowd, openly accusing the headmaster of Dumbledore's murder. At the same time, members of the Order of the Phoenix enter the Great Hall. In the end, Snape is forced to flee. After this, Voldemort's voice is heard, demanding that Harry Potter be handed over, but most of those present resolutely reject such a condition.

McGonagall orders the supporters of the Dark Lord — Slytherins led by Pansy Parkinson — to be taken to the dungeon, after which she animates the knight statues of Hogwarts, sending them to defend the castle. Meanwhile, Filius Flitwick, Horace Slughorn, and Molly Weasley use spells to create a protective barrier around Hogwarts. Not knowing where to begin searching for the diadem, Harry is called by Luna, who says that since no living person has seen it, they should consult the ghost of Cogtevran. From the Grey Lady (who turns out to be Candida Cogtevran's daughter), Harry learns that the artifact he needs is located in the Room of Requirement...

Meanwhile, Ron and Hermione descend into the Chamber of Secrets to retrieve the basilisk fangs, the venom of which can destroy Horcruxes. They do this with the Puffenduy cup and then embrace each other warmly, finally giving in to their feelings after years of friendship. At the same time, Voldemort, having gathered all his supporters, destroys the protective barrier around the castle, thus beginning the Battle of Hogwarts. His wand cracks in his hand. A large number of giants, led by Strupyar, charge toward Hogwarts across the wooden bridge, but they are killed in an ambush set by Neville Longbottom and Seamus Finnigan. Death Eaters, dementors, giants, and acromantulas engage in battle, with the castle defenders bravely fighting back. Harry confesses his feelings to Ginny, and Neville, unsure of how the battle will end for him, wants to see Luna one last time.

In the Room of Requirement, Harry and his friends find the diadem turned into a Horcrux, but then they encounter the Slytherins — Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, and Blaise Zabini. During a "dispute," Goyle conjures Fiendfyre, which results in his death. Using the brooms they found, the trio manages not only to escape but also to save the other two opponents from certain death. After escaping the fiery Room of Requirement, Harry immediately destroys the diadem Horcrux with the basilisk fang Hermione had taken, and to ensure its complete destruction, Ron kicks it back into the destroyed Room of Requirement, where the doors immediately close. Voldemort feels the loss of another Horcrux and, in a rage, kills Pius Thicknesse, who unwisely approached him with a question.

After the destruction of the diadem, Harry learns in his next vision that Voldemort, accompanied by Nagini in the boathouse, orders Lucius Malfoy to bring Snape to him. Through the castle, where battles rage on at every corner, the trio makes their way to the boathouse, where they overhear a conversation between Snape and Voldemort. In the end, the Dark Lord, with Nagini's help, fatally strikes down his servant, believing this will allow him to gain control over the Elder Wand. Voldemort then leaves the boathouse with Nagini. Harry leans over the dying Snape, and at his request, takes his memories. Meanwhile, Voldemort loudly addresses his followers, ordering them to temporarily retreat to the Forbidden Forest. The Dark Lord also demands that Harry himself come to him, threatening to destroy both the castle and all its defenders if he does not comply.

Returning to Hogwarts, the trio finds the castle defenders in the Great Hall, mourning the fallen. Harry learns of the deaths of Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, and Nymphadora Tonks. Unable to bear it, Potter rushes to the headmaster's office. There, he pours Snape's memories into the Pensieve and immerses himself in them.

Harry sees that his mother Lily and Snape had known each other since childhood. Later, Snape's feelings grew into love. But they were sorted into different Hogwarts houses: Lily into Gryffindor, where she met James Potter and his friend Sirius Black, and Snape into Slytherin. Snape’s animosity towards James, who constantly bullied him, only intensified when Lily eventually fell in love with Potter and married him after graduation. Having become a Death Eater, Snape told Voldemort everything he had heard about the prophecy, unaware that Voldemort's target was actually Lily. When this became clear, Snape rushed to Albus Dumbledore, hoping that he could protect his beloved. Dumbledore agreed to help, provided Snape broke ties with the Death Eaters, to which Snape immediately agreed.

Despite Dumbledore's intervention, due to Peter Pettigrew's betrayal, Voldemort killed Harry’s parents but lost his body in the process when he tried to kill their child. When Snape arrived at Godric's Hollow, all he could do was cry while holding Lily's dead body, while little Harry Potter watched from his crib. Dumbledore convinced the devastated Snape to help protect Harry if Voldemort returned, so that Lily's death would not be in vain. Snape became the Potions Master at Hogwarts, carefully hiding his true identity while secretly torn by the fact that he saw in Harry both the child of the woman he loved and the son of his arch-enemy...

It was also revealed that almost two years ago, Snape saved Dumbledore's life, who had been cursed by Marvolo Gaunt's ring. Nevertheless, the headmaster's days were numbered. Dumbledore knew that Draco Malfoy had been ordered by Voldemort to kill him, and to save the boy's soul and ease his own demise, he instructed Snape to carry out the murder when the time came.

Dumbledore also told Snape that when Voldemort tried to kill one-year-old Harry, part of the Dark Lord's soul split off and attached itself to the child. This explains Harry's ability to speak to snakes, sense Horcruxes, and invade Voldemort's mind — in other words, Harry himself is a Horcrux, of which Voldemort is completely unaware. For Voldemort to be defeated, Harry must die at his hand.

Snape was supposed to tell Harry all of this once the remaining Horcruxes were destroyed. Severus was shocked to learn that the son of his beloved woman had been raised like a pig for slaughter all this time. It turned out that the Potions Master was still loyal to his first love, and it was he, using his Patronus (the same as Lily's), who led Harry to the Sword of Gryffindor in the Forbidden Forest...

Deeply shocked by everything he has seen, Harry, however, does not hesitate for a second. He tells Ron and Hermione that he is going to the Forbidden Forest, reminding them of the need to kill Nagini, who will remain the last Horcrux after his death. As he approaches the forest, he takes out the Golden Snitch, inside which is the Resurrection Stone. Using it, Harry summons the "shadows" of his parents, as well as Remus and Sirius, who support him on his way to death. Eventually, Harry drops the stone to the ground and steps onto the clearing, where Voldemort and his Death Eaters are waiting. There, the Dark Lord strikes Harry with the Killing Curse.

Harry regains consciousness in a strange misty place that reminds him of King's Cross Station (only it is cleaner and without trains). He sees an ugly, whiny child, to whom he feels both pity and disgust. Nearby is Albus Dumbledore, who informs Harry that he is not dead; instead, the Killing Curse only destroyed the piece of Voldemort's soul that was inside him. Harry asks if he must return, and the headmaster replies that it depends on his own desire. After that, Dumbledore disappears.

Harry finds himself lying in the clearing in the forest again, pretending to be dead in order to deceive the enemy. Narcissa Malfoy, sent to check on him, leans over and asks if her son Draco is alive, to which she receives an affirmative answer. After that, Narcissa lies to Voldemort's face, telling him that Harry is dead.

The Dark Lord and the Death Eaters head toward the castle, forcing the sobbing Hagrid to carry Harry's "body." Voldemort triumphantly announces the death of his enemy, telling the castle's defenders that it is time to either join him or die. Draco Malfoy immediately switches sides. The next to step out of the ranks of Hogwarts defenders is Neville, who declares that Harry, Fred, Remus, Tonks, and others did not die in vain, and the battle is not over. At that moment, Neville pulls the Sword of Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat he is holding. And at that very moment, Harry suddenly "comes back to life," jumping down from Hagrid's arms and rejoining the fight.

Voldemort falls into a mad frenzy, and many of the Death Eaters (most notably Lucius Malfoy and his family), having lost faith in their master, decide to leave him.

During the renewed battle, Voldemort unsuccessfully tries to strike down Harry, chasing him through the entire castle, while Ron and Hermione strive to destroy Nagini. The Great Hall becomes the central battlefield, and gradually the tide begins to turn in favor of the Hogwarts defenders. Soon, Bellatrix Lestrange, Voldemort's most devoted follower, is killed by Molly Weasley...

Harry tells Voldemort that the Elder Wand will not obey him because it never belonged to Snape. Then, Harry grabs his enemy and throws him down from a great height. Once on the ground, both opponents crawl toward their dropped wands and grab them at the same time. The duel continues, bringing no success to either side.

Meanwhile, Nagini corners Ron and Hermione, and the Killing Curse cast by Ron does no harm to her. In the final moment, Neville saves his friends by decapitating the snake with the Sword of Gryffindor.

Voldemort realizes the loss of his last Horcrux, but, gathering his last strength, he tries again to strike his enemy with the Avada Kedavra curse. Harry counters with the disarming spell. The two beams collide once more (just like they did in the graveyard), and as a result, the Killing Curse is reflected and strikes the Dark Lord, knocking the Elder Wand from his hand. Harry catches the wand and sees how Voldemort, now vulnerable after losing all his Horcruxes, slowly falls to the ground and disintegrates into dust, which is carried away by the wind. This marks the final end of both the Battle of Hogwarts and the Second Wizarding War as a whole...

While the defenders of the castle recover from the battle, Harry joins Ron and Hermione, explaining to them why the Elder Wand refused to obey the Dark Lord. It turns out that the true master of the wand was not Snape (as Voldemort had believed), but Draco Malfoy, who disarmed Dumbledore before his death that night at the Astronomy Tower. Later, however, Harry took Draco's wand at the Malfoy Manor, and the power of the unbeatable wand thus passed to him. But Harry believes that the Elder Wand may cause more problems than benefits. He breaks it in half and throws it off the bridge, so that it cannot be claimed by anyone. The three friends hold hands and dreamily look into the distance, wondering what will happen to them next.

Nineteen years pass. Harry and Ginny are married, and they have three children: James, Albus, and Lily. The family arrives at Platform 9¾ to send Albus and James off to Hogwarts. The Potters meet Ron and Hermione, who are also a couple and have two children, Hugo and Rose. Draco is also on the platform, with his wife Astoria and their son Scorpius, who strongly resembles him. Albus asks his father what will happen if he is sorted into Slytherin. Harry tells him that the bravest man he ever knew, in whose honor Albus Severus received his second name, was in Slytherin. And if Albus does end up in Slytherin, then that house will gain a wonderful young wizard. But if Albus wants to be in Gryffindor, then the Sorting Hat will certainly take that wish into account, just as it did with Harry. The train departs; Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione watch with both joy and sadness as their children leave for Hogwarts to grow up and gain the knowledge and skills needed for life in the magical world.
